Earl Mindell's The Vitamin Bible is one of the best nutrition books of all time.

Earl Mindell’s The Vitamin Bible has graced bookstores for more than a quarter century. Revised and expanded from the original version, The New Vitamin Bible has progressed with recent scientific discoveries concerning vitamins, minerals and herbal supplements.

Vitamins

The Vitamin Bible discusses everything an individual needs to know about vitamins – what each does for the body, the consequences of not getting enough, best natural sources and personal advice.

Most individuals do not realize the body does not use certain vitamins properly without the inclusion of a well-balanced diet. For example, we know vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant. Most do not know that vitamin C supplementation is optimized when taken in conjunction with calcium and magnesium.

Minerals

The Vitamin Bible discusses minerals in much the same way as vitamins. It provides rare facts as well as basic information. For example, common knowledge dictates that calcium is used to maintain strong bones and help prevent osteoporosis. Most do not know that it can help alleviate insomnia as well.

Herbal Supplements/Folk Remedies

Do herbal supplements or folk remedies provide the benefits the advertisers claim? Some do and some do not. The Vitamin Bible discusses dozens of non-traditional medicines.

St. John’s Wort is an antiseptic and a painkiller. Many take it as a supplement to elevate mood. The Vitamin Bible explains that taking St. John’s Wort to elevate mood may take three weeks before any feeling positive mood benefits. The book also explains that individuals need to take “dual action” St. John’s Wort. If the bottle does not say “dual action” then the money spent on the supplement is wasted.

What Vitamins Do I Need?

The Vitamin Bible discusses the special nutrient needs of every individual. The book discusses how to eat a balanced diet and what food cravings mean. Typically, a food craving is the body’s way of telling you the body does not have enough of a certain nutrient. For example, a potato chip craving tells an individual the body needs sodium. Instead of eating those fat-filled chips, sprinkle sea salt over your next meal.

The book gives nutritional and supplementation advice for all kinds of individuals, from the athlete to the truck driver. It tells you what vitamins to take when you are trying to quit smoking or alleviate heartburn.

The book lays out nutrition guidelines for those with arthritis, ulcers and other illnesses. It discusses the best vitamins for hair and nails, keep high energy levels and possible aphrodisiacs. It even discusses vitamin programs that may help your pets.

The Vitamin Bible indeed is one of the best nutrition books of all time. Anyone concerned about his health should have a copy. The book lets you know what supplements you need before going to the store. Otherwise, you could walk in a store and get sold a bunch of stuff that may not be right for you.
