Here is a brief explanation on this very special vitamin.

Recently, a study done by a clinical assistant professor at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine-New York showed that low levels of vitamin D are related to hypertension, diabetes, cancer and osteoporosis. Amazing!

The research goes on to claim that adults who do not get enough sunlight are 27% more likely to die early. The study was conducted over 13 years with 12,000 men and women.

How does One Obtain Vitamin D?

Drinking milk that is heavily fortified with essential vitamins, whether it is nonfat or whole milk, is one way to counter the development of these diseases as well as getting just 10 to 15 minutes of midday sunlight, the hours preferably between 11:30am to 2:30pm.

After the first 15 minutes it is suggested you apply sun block if you plan to remain in the light for longer periods. You should venture into the sun several times a week to help keep your vitamin D level at normal levels.

During winter it is wise to take supplements. Because of how the sun reaches us, there is a time when the light in the northern regions may not be as strong as you would think.

There is an imaginary line that suggests that from the top-most part of Northern California to Boston, the Northerly sun is very weak in the winter. This requires you and your family to load up on healthy supplements in order to help make your vitamin D levels adequate.

Studies have Shown the Benefits of Vitamin D

Another study showed that individuals who took vitamin D supplements over the course of the winter were 18 times more likely to live longer than those who took a placebo. For adults, the suggested intake is 800 IU daily.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recently doubled their intake for infants and children to 400 IU. The best supplements you can currently purchase that will do your body an overall good are items labeled as D3. D3 implies a greater potency and absorption.

The proof is here in the pudding. Drinking 8oz of Vitamin D fortified milk will help you increase your longevity. Without it you can be facing missing out on the best time of your life! Help yourself today! Get up and go see if you can find D3 products in your local health food store or grocery.

This is really important to everyone, so pass this news on to everyone you talk with. Vitamin D - it's the ultimate supplement for your body!
